What is Single Ply Roofing
No matter how much maintenance you do on your roof, at some point it will have to be replaced. Wind, rain, hail, and snow can cause your roofing material to deteriorate and leak. When replacing your commercial roof, there are many things to consider including: durability, strength, quality and price. Because the needs for each building will be unique, a qualified commercial roofing specialist needs to be consulted.
One of the most recognized roofing replacement material in the Texas area is single ply roofing. Single ply roofing is flexible sheets of various materials that are laid on the roof then attached with various methods.
Single ply roofing comes in three categories:
- Modified bitumens
Thermoset membranes are made from rubber compounds. The most common is EPDM though neoprene or hypalon are also used. These materials are proven to withstand sunlight and most common chemicals.
Thermoplastics are membranes based on plastic polymers such as PVC. It is made more flexible by adding ingredients and a reinforcement layer such as fiberglass or polyester.
Modified bitumen membranes are hybrid materials that incorporate single ply with traditional techniques used in built up roofing. These membranes combine layers of asphalt, rubber or plastic and reinforcements.
Single ply roofing is rolled out from materials from the factory. The seams are either heat or chemically sealed and the edges are attached by various methods to the roof. This produces a watertight, strong, layer to protect your business.
